The 2019 Writers' Retreat is finished! Thanks to all who attended, and a special thanks to our guest speakers who helped enlighten us all on the finer points of building a story and making money after it's completed!

To stay informed about next year's event, as well as other special events put on by AspenHouse Publishing, follow us on Facebook or sign up for our newsletter.

Girl Looking into Distance

You! If you're writing a book, have written a book, or want to write a book and don't know where to start, this event is for you!

Most of our expertise rests in creative writing, so many of our sessions will be geared toward fiction writing. But if you're just looking for an escape from the world to write to your heart's content, do it!

Our masters of storytelling will be there on the retreat with you, happy to answer your questions and write some of their own work as well.

If you are under 18, you must be accompanied by an adult. This is a writing retreat, not a summer camp. If you wish an exception to this rule, please contact us and we can discuss this further.

This writers' retreat is designed to allow you to unplug.

No alarm clocks.

No work emails.

No distractions by the internet.

Just writing.

You will need to bring a few personal items to help make your stay comfortable and enjoyable.

 - Sleeping bag and pillow. There are 3" foam mattresses in each of the cabins, but a sleeping bag will help you sleep snugly throughout the retreat.

 - Toiletries.

 - Pens/Paper. You will be provided with a pen and spiral binder upon arrival, but if you have a preference, feel free to bring yours. I'm aware that many people prefer to write on a laptop, so we will have a charging station, but space will be limited. Unplug and enjoy the retreat!

Old-Fashioned Clock

June 19-23, 2019

We will start with check-in at noon on Wednesday, June 19 and finish with by climbing Mt. Lassen on Sunday morning. You are encouraged to write from the mountaintop, then climb back down and leave at your own pace.

For a full schedule of what will be happening when, check out our Schedule page. A printed, final copy will be provided to you at check-in.

Manzanita Lake Camping Cabins are nestled at the foot of Mt. Lassen. Wake up every morning to a sunrise and write your novel on the shores of one of the most scenic lakes in Northern California.

From Redding, head east on HWY 44, past Shingletown, until you arrive at Lassen Volcanic National Park. It'll take you about an hour.

We will be staying the week inside Lassen Volcanic National Park, and therefore are requested to respect their rules.

This means, if you have trouble picking up after yourself, let one of our people know and we can help you. We get it - everything there is beautiful, and you may want to take it home. But you are also encouraged to leave it behind so others may enjoy the natural beauty. If it was there when you arrived, leave it; if not, take it with you!

There may be other visitors to the park. Our sessions are open to the public, so don't be surprised to see new faces wanting to learn alongside you. If you are interested in learning but don't want to spend the night, just show up!
